It gives babies the nutrients they need to grow and develop, helps strengthen their immune system, and can create a special bonding experience. Breastfeeding can also offer health benefits for parents and may make feeding more convenient and cost-effective.

Every breastfeeding journey is unique, and it’s normal to have questions or need extra support along the way. Healthy Families Allegany Cattaraugus (HFAC) has a Certified Lactation Consultant available to provide guidance, encouragement, and practical tips to help families meet their breastfeeding goals. Whether you’re preparing to breastfeed, just getting started, or facing challenges along the way, we’re here to support you with personalized, judgment-free care.

  • HFAC offers personalized support and services, including:

    • Parenting education and guidance

    • Information on infant and child development

    • Connections to prenatal and well-child medical care

    • Developmental screenings and assessments for children

    • Assistance accessing community resources and services

    • Support in building positive parent-child relationships


      Our team also provides educational books, toys, and other learning materials, along with fun and engaging activities designed to support your child’s healthy development.

  • Every family is unique. Our assessment process helps identify your family’s strengths, goals, and areas where additional support may be helpful. Based on your assessment, we provide personalized referrals and connect you with services that best meet your needs.

    Additional referrals may include:

    • Job training programs

    • GED preparation classes

    • Legal services

    • Healthcare resources

    • Community support programs

    • Other local services that benefit families

    Healthy Families programs have successfully supported a wide range of families—from first-time teen parents to experienced parents welcoming another child.

  • Parents who are pregnant or have a child younger than three months old are encouraged to learn more about our services.

  • There is absolutely no cost to participate. Healthy Families Allegany Cattaraugus is a free community service for eligible families.
